Calorie Calculator
I've actually been wondering about this for a while, and recently found this formula that seems to be at least a good estimator, if not pretty accurate:
Males: 66+(12.7*H)+(6.27*W)-(6.8*A)
Females: 655+(4.57*H)+(4.36*W)-(4.7*A)H = Height in inches
W = Weight in pounds
A = Age in yearsThe resulting number of this formula is the approximate amount of calories you need in an average day in order to stay healthy.
Multiply this figure by...1.2 if you're confined to bed rest
1.3 if you're generally sedentary both at work and in leisure
1.4 if you lead a somewhat active lifestyle
1.5 if you are very activeThis number is the approximate amount of calories you need in an average day in order to maintain your current weight. Get less than this and you will lose weight; more than this & you'll gain.
My results are 2,202 and 2,862. That seems slightly high to me but perhaps I'll live with that in mind over the next few weeks and see what happens. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the recommended daily intake for an average man is 2,500 calories, and while I am taller than the average man, I'd imagine that I'm not as active as one at the same time. So hmmm.
Also interesting is that if I had exactly the same body I have now except with female parts instead of male, my numbers would be 1,824 and 2,371. Silly hormones!
